Holly Smale's best-selling book, Geek Girl, has enthralled all of our nation's teens with its humorous account of Smale's teenage years.
Harriet Manners knows a lot of things; but being clever and knowing lots of facts makes her: a geek. Not just a shy, clever, unfashionable geek – no, a mega clever, cringy, a fashion disgrace geek. This couldn't be any different form her slim, pretty, fashionable, slightly air brain best friend Nat. She's also got a long list of people who hate her, a stalker who likes to hide in her garden hedge and spy on her, a slightly crazy brainy dad and a lawyer for a mum.
What Harriet doesn't have is the requirements for a model. No, that's Nat!
But when Harriet gets spotted by a top London modelling agency by hiding under a table for refugee, she thinks that it must be a mistake - but its reality. Modelling is a whirlwind, with her deranged agent, Wilbur and her vindictive boss. But Harriet's new found career leads to many disasters and surprises.
Harriet Manner's tale is very much reflected on Smale's teenage – young adulthood so the story is very much in depth and realistic. I love the fact that it's based on real experience, not just made up as this novel shows you a front stage view of the harsh modelling world. It's not just the pouts, makeup and flashy clothes, it's the down-to-earth reality. I absolutely loved it and I can't wait for books 2 and 3. Anyone aged 10+ will fall in love with this novel.
