'Gedson masterclass incoming' - Spurs fans go nuts as Fernandes and Alli start against Marine

Tottenham fans have been reacting to Jose Mourinho's team selection for today's FA Cup clash with Marine.

Spurs take on the eight-tier outfit today at Rossett Park in the FA Cup third-round and Mourinho has opted to go with a strong lineup, while also resting some key players for the tie.

The Portuguese boss has been outspoken about fixture congestion in recent weeks, but heading into this tie, he made no bones about the fact he had to show Marine respect by putting out a strong side today.

And a man of his word, Mourinho has indeed gone strong with a strong starting XI, even if some first-team stars have been rested, including Harry Kane and Son Heing-min.

Marine v Tottenham: FA Cup third-round preview

Matt Doherty, Toby Alderweireld, Ben Davies and Moussa Sissoko, who are all regulars in the first team, all start today, while a number of second-string players have been given the chance to impress.

Joe Hart replaces Hugo Lloris, while summer signing Joe Rodon starts alongside Alderweireld at centre-back and youngster Harvey White starts in midfield.

Gedson Fernandes, who has seen little action since his loan move to Spurs from Benfica, has also won a start, while the out-of-favour Dele Alli comes into the forward line.

Loan striker Carlos Vinicius leads the line, with Lucas Moura the other wide man for this afternoon.

Tottenham fans have been reacting to that team on social media. Here is what they have had to say.

Mourinho will have a strong bench to call upon this afternoon if needed with Paulo Gazzaniga the back-up goalkeeper starting from the bench along with Japhet Tanganga, Davinson Sanchez, Sergio Reguilon, Alfie Devine, Tanguy Ndombele, Jack Clarke, Gareth Bale and Son.

That bench could be very useful indeed for Mourinho if some of the other FA Cup ties are anything to go by with plenty of upsets across the third-round, including Crawley Town's 3-0 demolition of Premier League outfit Leeds United earlier today.
