The father of of Tottenham Hotspur loanee Gedson Fernandes has set out his dream for his son, insisting that he wants to see him to make a name for himself at one of Portugal's top clubs.
The central-midfielder joined Spurs on loan from Benfica back in January in the hope of making a name for himself in the Premier League. However, his time in England has not gone according to plan, with him being restricted to just 13 appearances since January.
This season, the 21-year-old has featured just once for Spurs, that being in the Carabao Cup against Chelsea back in September.
With his game time becoming more and more limited, the chances of his Spurs loan being terminated and returning to Benfica are growing, something which Jose Mourinho refused to rule out last week.
Mourinho, who will lead his side into battle against Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday evening, said: "For me it is never a problem, but a solution.
"Having him in the squad, even if he is not called up and not playing, is an extremely comfortable situation.
"I will never be the one to push him or say that I don't want him here. But I understand the situation of the kid and Benfica.
"If the club wants to end the relationship here, we will be here to collaborate, because we want the good of the player. Benfica has the power to decide and will be accepted by us."
Should Benfica make the decision to recall Fernandes in January, it would be welcomed by his father Edeson Fernandes, as he has set out his ambition of seeing his son playing back in Portugal.
"My desire is for him to play, whether at Benfica, Sporting, FC Porto or another team," he said, as quoted by Desporto.
Though Fernandes' time in north London has not gone according to plan, he still continues to be considered as one of the brightest, most exciting, young footballers emerging in Portugal.
He has already made 59 appearances for Benfica, despite his tender age, chipping in with three goals and seven assists.
