Gedson Fernandes has been officially unveiled as Tottenham’s first January signing.
The Portugal international has joined Spurs on an initial 18-month loan deal – the first signing of the Jose Mourinho era in north London.
Spurs have the option to make the move permanent in the summer of 2021.
Fernandes, 21, has made the move to the capital where members of his family already reside and admits the lure of playing under his compatriot Mourinho was a factor in opting for Spurs.
“I have to focus on my job and try to do my best,” Fernandes told Tottenham’s website. “All young players want to work with Jose Mourinho because he’s one of the best – all of us as players want to stay near the best, so it’s fantastic to work with him.
“The Premier League is a different competition – every player in the world wants to play in the Premier League.
"For me, it’s one more motivation because I always dreamed of playing in this league and now let’s make my dream come true.
"I think we’re going to do fantastic things because this is a fantastic club.”
