A Gedling school has received a national award in recognition of being among the best performing secondary schools in the country.
Carlton le Willows School has been awarded the Educational Outcomes Award by the Schools, Students and Teachers network (SSAT) based on its 2018 exam results.
The SSAT is a UK-based independent educational membership organisation working with primary, secondary, special, free schools and academies.
It uses data from the Department for Education and Ofsted to find the highest performing schools in the country.
The award follows the release of official DfE figures showing the academy is the best school in the district based on pupil progress.
The head teacher Craig Weaver said he was delighted with the award.
He said: “I’m so proud that the hard work of students, supported by parents and academy staff, has been nationally recognised.
"Such outstanding results can only be achieved with consistent focus, determination and commitment from the whole school community, so a big well done to everyone.
“Here at Carlton le Willows the staff team works very hard to ensure that every Year 11 has the very best opportunity to achieve, with individualised support to help them reach their own personal goals.
"And of course our students, supported by their parents and carers, put in an immense amount of effort to achieve their very best.
“Our results consistently place us among the top schools in the county and we have a long standing and justified reputation for providing an excellent standard of education.
"But I think Carlton le Willows stands out from other schools because of our holistic approach to education.
"We don’t just focus on academics, we look at developing character skills – such as professionalism, curiosity, gratitude and kindness – to ensure that all our young people are prepared for success in life.

"We teach them resilience so they can overcome challenges and we teach them the value of always giving their best.”
The school GCSE results in 2018 were outstanding with 61 percent of students achieving a Grade 5 or above in English and Maths – well above national average.
In total 79 percent of Year 11s gained five or more GCSEs at Grade 4 and above with 1 in 4 students securing an A*/A equivalent.
Sue Williamson, the chief executive of SSAT said: “I am delighted that Carlton le Willows Academy has won an Educational Outcomes Awards.

"This recognises one important aspect of the school’s work but at SSAT we believe an outstanding school has deep social justice at the heart of its plan; it subjects that plan to constant challenge and innovation; and it liberates teachers to perform brilliantly in the classroom.
"SSAT is pleased to recognise the quality of leadership and the hard work of all staff to ensure the success of every child. A big thank you and well done to students, parents, staff and governors."
Carlton le Willows Academy will be presented with the award during the summer term at a ceremony.
