Gedling Access Road: Update as Mapperley Plains set to fully reopen to traffic

Mapperley Plains is set to fully reopen to traffic as the Gedling Access Road edges further to completion.

The major road, which runs from Mapperley golf club up to Nottingham Road near Woodborough, has been subject to a lane closure due to work for the new £40m bypass.

The Gedling Access Road is scheduled to completed this Autumn, with work beginning in January 2020 on the new route.

Now, from Monday, October 18, Mapperley Plains will re-open to traffic on all three lanes.

Nottinghamshire County Council said in an update: "From Monday 18 October, the traffic management arrangements currently in place on Mapperley Plains will change.

"The current nearside lane closure will be removed, which will re-open the three lanes at the traffic signalled junction with Arnold Lane, Gedling Road and Plains Road."

However, as Mapperley Plains fully reopens, nearby Chartwell Grove will be subject to temporary traffic lights for two weeks, it has been announced.

A county council spokesperson said: "For two weeks, a temporary three-way set of traffic lights will be in place at the junction with Chartwell Grove.

"These signals will be in place to allow the construction of the new nearside kerb line, drainage, and service ducting to take place. At peak times, these traffic lights will be under manual control to reduce the impact on motorists."
