GCSE results day: Share your stories and have your say with Mirror Online

Let's be honest, 2020 hasn't been the greatest of years so far (and to think, there's still four more months to go).

Trying to live a relatively normal life in the time of pandemic has not been easy for anyone, but for many young people about to make the transition from one stage of education to another, the last few months came with an extra dose of stress that we all know could have been easily avoided.

Students spent months being kept in the dark on how they would be graded, only to be presented with an inaccurate and ill-equipped system.

A-Level students across the country saw their grades downgraded by a poorly executed algorithm, leading to many missing out on coveted apprenticeships, scholarships and dream university placements.

Fortunately England, Wales and Scotland all eventually announced a U-turn due to the deserved pressure put on them by students and, while the change was welcome, for some it was too little, too late.

Although this change came before GCSE students were to receive their results, no doubt the stress of what was going on has affected them equally in the run-up to such an important day in the lives of many.

The chaos has also affected BTECs, which were initially going to be altered by the algorithim as well. However, exam board Pearson only revealed last night that they would follow the U-turn on GCSEs, meaning grades would be in line with those predicted by teachers rather than any downgrades.

Schools and colleges have since been told not to publish the level 1 and 2 results today in order to allow more time for grade adjustment. Schools minister Nick Gibb admitted that there was no firm date for students to receive their BTEC results, leaving tens of thousands in limbo.

Have you, your family or your students been affected?

How have you coped during this time of uncertainty?

Missed out on your preferred college or apprenticeship because of your results? Get what you needed and are ready to put this behind you?
