GCSE results day 2020: When do students find out their results this year?

After a nervous summer of waiting, GCSE students will be able to find out their results this year on Thursday, August 20.

Results will be sent to schools and colleges the day before and students will get their grades the following morning.

Because England isn't yet completely out of coronavirus lockdown, the Government and schools across the country are having to make decisions to keep staff, students and families safe and socially distanced - even when they collect their GCSE results.

You should check with your school to find out when they open, and what time they’ll begin handing out the all-important envelopes.

Teachers should also be on hand to discuss your options and should be able to offer help and advice if things don’t go quite how you were expecting.

Due to exams being cancelled this year, students will be awarded grades based on a formal calculation carried out by their tutors.

These grades are calculated by assessments and rankings from teachers, for example, using previous mock exam grades and predicted grades to determine what overall grade that student looked to be aiming towards before exams were cancelled. Find out more about the grading process here.

Here at ChronicleLive, we’ll be celebrating the achievement of students from schools across our region, with a live blog running with stories from around the area throughout the day.

Meanwhile, for older students, A-level results day comes a week earlier, falling this year on Thursday, August 13.
