GCC to Create Food Supply Safety Network

The virtual meeting of the GCC trade and industry ministers. Asharq Al-Awsat

The six members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have approved a common network for food supply safety proposed by Kuwait.

The decision was taken on Thursday after a virtual meeting of GCC trade and industry ministers to discuss the COVID-19 outbreak's repercussions on food supply safety.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that during the meeting, the GCC ministers discussed the impact of the globally spreading disease on Gulf economies.

It added that Thursday’s talks would be followed by more coordination meetings.

The six Gulf states have recorded more than 19,000 coronavirus cases with over 100 deaths.
