GCC Summit in Riyadh Stresses Need for Collective Work to Confront Challenges

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, announced on Tuesday the conclusion and success of the 42nd Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit that was hosted by Riyadh.

In closing remarks, he hailed the contribution of Gulf leaders and the heads of delegations in ensuring the success of the meeting.

He praised collective work that ensures the prosperity of the people of the Gulf.

The closing statement of the summit underscored the importance of collective work in confronting all challenges.

It stressed the need to follow up on the implementation of economic visions and seizing investment opportunities between Gulf countries.

It also stressed the need to support the role played by women and the youth in the economy and finance and business worlds.

It added that it will follow up on the implementation of climate initiatives.

It also highlighted digital transformation in the Gulf countries and the need to build alliances in cybersecuity and data security.

GCC Secretary-General Dr. Nayef al-Hajraf then read out the closing statement of the summit before the press.

It stressed that the security of the Gulf is indivisible.

It said that the ongoing hostile behavior of the Iran-backed Houthi militias in Yemen is a threat to international security.

On Iran, the statement said the international community must seriously approach Tehran's nuclear file.

Gulf countries must be included in any international negotiations with Iran.

On Yemen, the statement expressed support to United Nations efforts to reach a political solution to the country's conflict.

On Iraq, it underscored its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

It condemned the failed assassination attempt against Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi in October.

On Lebanon, it called on it to prevent Hezbollah from carrying out its terrorist activities.

It expressed its support to the interests of the Libyan people and backed the rights of Egypt and Sudan to their share of the Nile waters.
