Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf emphasized on Sunday the steadfast position of the GCC to end the Yemeni crisis through a political solution based on the three references represented in the Gulf initiative and its executive mechanism, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference (NDC), and UN Security Council resolution 2216.

He held talks on Sunday with Saudi Ambassador to Yemen Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Jaber, who is also the general supervisor of the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen.

They tackled the latest developments in Yemen and the GCC’s determination to back the legitimate government at the political, economic, humanitarian and development levels.

Al-Hajraf also praised Saudi efforts aimed at resolving the crisis in Yemen based on those three references, stressing that the Kingdom continues to provide all aspects of political, developmental and relief support to the Yemeni people

The GCC is holding several meetings as part of its attempts to politically end the Yemeni crisis and push forward a ceasefire in the country.

In this regard, al-Hajraf had met this month with UN special envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths and US envoy Tim Lenderking, in addition to a number of officials in the Yemeni government.

Last week, Lenderking stressed that he found a strong commitment from the Saudi leadership to end the conflict. The Iran-backed Houthi militias, however, continue to go against international and regional efforts to bring peace to Yemen.
