
Gulf countries condemned on Sunday the failed assassination attempt against Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi.
Saudi Arabia deemed it a “cowardly terrorist” attack, stressing its solidarity with Iraq, its government and people, in confronting all terrorists seeking to undermine their country’s security and stability.
The United Arab Emirates’ foreign ministry slammed the attack, saying it aims to destabilize Iraq.
It expressed its solidarity with Iraq as it confronts terrorism, stressing that the UAE is keen on Iraq restoring its security and stability.
A drone laden with explosives targeted Kadhimi’s residence in Baghdad early on Sunday. The PM escaped unhurt.
The attack, which security sources said injured several members of Kadhimi’s personal protection detail, came after protests in the Iraqi capital over the result of a general election last month turned violent.
Kuwait strongly denounced the attack, saying it not only targets Kadhimi but all accomplishments achieved by Iraq and its people.
Its foreign ministry said it has faith that the Iraqi people will not allow saboteurs to undermine their country’s unity.
Kuwait stands by Iraq and all the measures it takes to preserve its security, stability and sovereignty, it added.
Qatar condemned the failed attempt on Kadhimi’s life. Its foreign ministry said the terrorist attack targets the Iraqi state, urging the need to bring the perpetrators to justice.
It reiterated Doha’s constant support to the unity, stability and sovereignty of Iraq.
Bahrain expressed its condemnation of the failed assassination, stressing its full solidarity with Iraq and its people.
It emphasized its support to the efforts of the Iraqi government in fighting terrorism, bolstering democracy and preserving national achievements.
Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Dr. Nayef al-Hajraf condemned the failed assassination attempt.
He stressed the GCC’s “categorical rejection of such criminal acts that target the security and stability of Iraq.”
“The security of Iraq is integral to that of the council,” he added, while expressing solidarity with the country and its people “so that they can preserve their security, stability and territorial integrity.”
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation slammed the attack, stressing that it targets the unity, security and stability of Iraq.
OIC Secretary General Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen urged the need to preserve Iraq’s security and stability, calling on all of its political powers to resort to dialogue to overcome challenges in their country.
