Bake Off reassures fans with 'most British message ever' as show delayed by Boris speech

Fans of the Great British Bake Off had been left rather annoyed ahead of its long-awaited return tonight.

As viewers excitedly settled down to watch the new selection of contestant’s battle it out in the infamous kitchen, they were left disheartened after Boris Johnson’s coronavirus update speech delayed the broadcast time of the Channel 4 show.

Taking to Twitter eagle-eyed viewers flocked to share their thoughts on the "annoying" clash.

Others were able to see the "funny" side of the telly move because underneath the Prime Minister’s informative speech about the UK’s future coronavirus plans, Channel 4 had a reassuring message for Bake Off fans.

Despite the fact that Boris was speaking about an incredibly serious subject, the majority of die-hard Bake-Off fans were much more concerned about their favourite show being delayed.

One impatient fan regarded the message as ‘the most British thing’ ever.

“I love how Boris' statement on Channel 4 has a message at the bottom of the screen reassuring us Bake Off will be on soon.

Meanwhile, another avid viewer couldn’t quite find the humorous side to the delay as they fumed: “Boris delaying #GBBO to give a lockdown update and Twitter freaking out is a real mood.”

Another shared their appreciation for Channel 4's message.

“Honestly, that message from Channel 4 just goes to show how much we love Bake Off as a nation."

“Oh, Boris I just wanna watch Bake Off, can you wrap it up” another added.

“GIVE ME BAKE OFF NOW”, a fifth fan insisted.

Tonight's Bake-Off episode is set to kick off with a scandal after one contestant knocks their rival's cake on the floor - causing major drama to take place.

The show will see 12 contestants go head to head to bake six individual cakes and win the hearts of the judges.
