Gazza 'in hospital' after accident on the set of Italian reality TV show

Paul Gascoigne is reportedly in hospital after injuring himself while filming an Italian reality TV show.

The 53-year-old football legend is currently appearing on the show Island of the Famous,.

However Gazza was gripping his arm in pain after competing in an action-packed trial, before being helped towards the show's medic.

The trial had involved running along the island's beach before battling his way through an obstacle course and shooting a ball in a basketball hoop.

However it soon became apparent that the former Newcastle United star had injured himself with the MailOnline reporting the star was taken to hospital after suffering a suspected dislocated shoulder.

Host Massimiliano Rosolino initially said the former midfielder had "looked in trouble", before telling the show's viewers: "Paul is with the medics but the initial view is that he is not seriously hurt."

He was exempt from the nominations, and didn't appear in the rest of the show.

It is just the latest drama to involve Gazza since he started filming the show, which is Italy's answer to I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here.

It is being filmed in an island in the South American country of Honduras.

The Gateshead -born star arrived on the set by plunging from a helicopter into the sea, before later revealing that his tattoos included the words 'mum and dad' spelt incorrectly in Chinese.

However his ink failed to win over one of his fellow castaways - who called his tattoos "ugly".
