Gazing at the land he loves, picture shows missing boy who vanished from home in the middle of the night

UPDATE: Leven has been found safe and well. Thank you for sharing the police appeal.

Gazing at the land he loves, this is a picture of missing 14-year-old Leven Sopwith-Nicholson - who vanished from his home in the middle of the night.

He is in the same thin coat which it is believed he was wearing when he disappeared.

His anxious parents say Leven has a passion for the countryside in the Lake District here he lives.

He was last seen at 11.30pm at the family home in Ulverston but a police search for him has gone beyond Cumbria.

Police say he could have travelled anywhere within Cumbria - or even out of the area.

Leven 5ft 10ins of slim build with ginger curly hair. He may have been wearing a grey raincoat.

It is thought he left his home wearing only shorts and a thin coat despite heavy rain outside.

His parents Fiona and Toby spoke of their fears for the son who adores the countryside.

The couple said in a statement yesterday: "We are nearly two days into not having Leven home, that is every parent’s worst fear.

"As a family, we love walking the fells and orienteering, that love has passed on to Leven. But that experience is very different to this; our child has left the house in the middle of the night, on his own, in this awful weather, with no clothes, food, money or tent.

"There is no one that Leven would go to stay with or visit, his passion is the countryside.

"We believe Leven only has shorts and a thin coat on, this is so concerning to us. You want your child to be warm and safe and this situation is far from that.

"The not knowing is the worst part.

"I can’t put into words how we are feeling, but the support we are receiving is helping us stay hopeful. We appreciate everyone who has helped by sharing the appeals or keeping an eye out for Leven.

"Please would everyone continue to share the police’s appeals, to help us find our child. Call the police even with the smallest detail it all might help. If you are out walking or driving please look out for him and call the police if you see him. Please help us find Leven.

Police are urging anyone with information to call 101, quoting log number 30 of October 4.
