Gaza aid centres close after dozens of Palestinians reportedly killed

  • The US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) has temporarily shut down operations in Gaza after at least 58 Palestinians were reportedly killed near its distribution centres.
  • The Israeli military said it opened fire on a group of people it viewed as a threat near one of the centres, though the GHF claimed the incident happened “well beyond” its distribution point.
  • The GHF requested the Israeli military to manage foot traffic and provide clearer guidance to civilians to minimise risks.
  • The president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) described Gaza as "worse than hell on earth", saying there had not been enough action to end the war and suffering.
  • Aid workers have called for the cancellation of the GHF initiative, suggesting it is a dangerous weaponisation of food, and urged for other groups to be allowed to provide aid.
