Gayle King questions whether Queen was 'blindsided' by Meghan and Harry's decision

Gayle King questioned whether the Queen was truly "blindsided" by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's decision to leave the Royal Family and then move to California.

The 66-year-old CBS This Morning host has been a fervent supporter of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and she has doubted whether the Queen would have been kept in the dark about the big decision.

It was reported that the couple's announcement about their future was made without the knowledge of senior royals.

Gayle said after the Megxit announcement that this could not have been the case.

She told reporters at the time that from her understanding: "They did not make that decision in a vacuum, there were a lot of conversations.”

Gayle said there had “been several discussions about” the decision to leave roles within the Royal Family and that the Queen would have been one of the first to have been consulted about the plans.

Gayle added: "I thought it was very unfair to say that the Queen was blindsided.”

This is an opinion which was shared by Oprah Winfrey, who hosted the tell-all bombshell interview with Meghan and Harry.

Oprah, who was walking with Gayle when they were questioned for a video, which was later published by TMZ.

Speaking about the decision, Oprah said she “supported” the Sussexes “1,000 percent”.

She added that they were making "the best decision" for their family and this is why it shouldn't be questioned.

Oprah added: “I don’t think anybody else has any right to say anything... To say ‘I am going to choose this new life and what I believe to be the truest vision to myself?’

“Who are any of us to stand in judgement of that? That is what I think.”
