Gay subway proposal in China goes viral

A gay marriage proposal on the Beijing subway has gone viral in China.

Videos uploaded to Weibo, China's version of Twitter, show a young man kneel in the middle of a carriage to propose to his boyfriend with a watch.

"Today, I invite all the people we know and do not know to bear witness," the man says, according to Gay Star News.

One commuter who uploaded a clip commented: "As usual, I was taking the subway home, but contrary to what I was expecting, I encountered a couple's love... I think this is really incredible."

The post has been shared more than 10,000 times on Weibo and thousands of positive comments have been posted, according to CNN

"This type of love needs courage, bless you!" one Chinese web user posted.

Another wrote: "You can't ask for respect from everyone on gay/lesbian love, what I can do is not discriminate."

During the video, CNN reports a supportive crowd saying "be together," "say yes," and "kiss him".

However, not everyone was as accepting of the men. One woman can be heard repeatedly shouting "sin", the Daily Mirror reports.

Unfortunately, the two men will not be able to marry in China, which does not recognise gay marriage or civil unions.
