Gay Glasgow cop 'overwhelmed' with support after marrying fellow officer

A gay police officer says he's been overwhelmed with messages of support after marrying a fellow cop.

Martin Cullen-Mulveney reckons the backing he's received from colleagues and bosses has changed his life.

In an emotional message marking LGBT History Month the PC revealed that fellow cops turned out in force to celebrate when he wed husband Francis.

He said: "My husband is also a serving police constable with Police Scotland and just about everyone from his shift and mine, along with other police officers attended out wedding reception."

Martin, originally from Cambuslang, met Francis, a native of Chapelhall, at in 2011.

They couple got engaged during a trip to Marbella seven years later.

And when they married at Dalziel Park and Country Club last summer, the couple were thrilled to celebrate their special day with family, friends and workmates. It even featured on the pages of their local paper the Hamilton Advertiser as Wedding of the Week.

Martin says he's received nothing but support since joining the force 10 years ago.

He explained: "Becoming a police officer has got to be one of the best moves I have ever made.

"Before this I struggled with my confidence and never ever felt accepted due to my sexuality, I always felt it hindered me.

"Since working for Police Scotland I have been shown so much support from just about everyone I have even worked with, and that goes from my colleagues on the shift to senior management."

He added: "Being gay has never been and issue and my confidence has just come on leaps and bounds and I have made so many close friends for life that I never thought I would.

"Both my husband and I were so overwhelmed by the solidarity and support we were shown by our work colleagues who attended out wedding, which made our wedding day so much more memorable, and just proves how diverse Police Scotland re
