Gay Byrne's daughter Suzy tells of his two 'dying wishes' at emotional funeral mass in Dublin

Gay Byrne's daughter has revealed her dad had two dying wishes before he died.

Suzy paid an emotional tribute to her legendary father at his funeral mass in Dublin on Friday, thanking family, friends and staff at the Mater Hospital who looked after Gaybo over the years.

And during her eulogy, she thanked everyone for their kind words, and everyone who had turned out to honour the iconic Late Late Show presenter, Dublin Live reports.

She said: "Dad had an unwavering loyalty and trust in those who worked with him.

"Three years ago, that loyalty and trust was passed on to Professor John McCaffrey and his team in the Mater Hospital.

"He called John the 'captain of this ship'. Thank you John and your team, you enabled extra memories for us all.

"We developed friendship which made the cancer journey easier to bear."

Suzy also thanked the Mater's catering staff and their porters who she said "brightened the journey".

"The majority of the staff are Dubs. They live local here. The porters whisked dad from my car and wheel us all to operating theatres on daily basis."

"The catering ladies looked after him not as Gay Byrne but as a Dub and one of our own. They would have done anything for him."

Suzy said that her dad had accepted he was going to die and only wanted two things before he was laid to rest.

She added: "Dad had no fear of death. But, he did have two wishes: To be in his beloved Howth and not to suffer.

Suzy ended the eulogy by thanking everyone that came out from the route of Howth and ended with an emotional poem thanking her father.

"Thank you, Dad. You gave us words, ideas, music, songs. Often you made us laugh out loud and long. Beneath it all, you searched what was true. Thank you for that. And thank you most of all for being you."
