Gay Byrne's daughter Crona says he raffled off Harley Davidson given to him by Bono for charity

Crona, the eldest daughter of the late Gay Byrne, has said the RTE legend raffled off his Harley Davidson motorbike for charity.

The broadcaster received the bike as a gift from U2 frontman Bono on his last ever Late Late Show appearance.

In an interview with the Clare Champion, Crona revealed that generous Gaybo gave the bike up for a raffle and raised €82,000 for Crumlin Hospital.

Crona also hailed the public's support following her Dad's passing and said outpouring of grief has been "incredible".

She said: “Gay was such a mainstay for so many homes in Ireland for so many years it is lovely to hear the stories people are posting on social media.

“Some beautiful stories are being shared.

She also pointed to the influence her dad had on Irish people through the years saying: "It is lovely to see how Gay touched so many lives.

"People didn’t know all the work Dad did behind the scenes."

The legendary broadcaster was laid to rest last Friday, November 8, following a massive funeral ceremony at St. Mary's Pro Cathedral in Dublin.

He passed away on November 4, at the age of 85 following a long illness.

Thousands of people lined the streets to pay their respects to the Late Late Show legend.

RTE stars Ryan Tubridy, Ray D’Arcy, Joe Duffy, Marty Morrissey, Miriam O’Callaghan, Sean O’Rourke and many others all attended the funeral mass.

The public burst into spontaneous applause as the broadcaster’s remains were carried from the Cathedral to the awaiting hearse before it departed on its final journey to St Fintan’s Cemetery in Sutton, North Dublin.
