Gay Byrne funeral arrangements announced as service to take place for RTE legend in Dublin

A funeral service will take place for RTE legend Gay Byrne on Friday, it has been announced.

The mass will be held at St Mary's Pro-Cathedral on Marlborough Street in Dublin city centre at 12pm on November 8.

The former Late Late Show host, who spent 37 years at its helm, had been ill for some time and sadly passed away at the age of 85 yesterday.

Television coverage of the funeral will be streamed live on the RTE Player and on RTE.ie, available to audiences worldwide.

Beginning at 11.30am on RTE One and RTE News Now, Bryan Dobson will present a special programme featuring coverage of the funeral mass. John Bowman and Mary Kennedy will provide commentary of the ceremony.

Gay Byrne is survived by his wife Kathleen, their daughters Crona and Suzy, and their families.

A book of condolence was opened today at the Mansion House in Dublin and will remain open until 5pm on Wednesday.

A special live edition of The Late Late Show will also be broadcast on RTE One at 9.35pm tonight in tribute to Byrne.

Ryan Tubridy will play host for a 90 minute special this evening which will include contributions from Gay’s many friends and colleagues across the world of entertainment and beyond.

RIP Gay Byrne
