Gavin Strachan in Celtic exit link as Parkhead coach favourite for Hartlepool return

Celtic coach Gavin Strachan is favourite for the top job at former club Hartlepool United.

The 48-year-old, son of Parkhead hero Gordon, has been part of the first-team coaching set-up since last summer.

His reputation as a 'laptop coach' among Celtic fans took star billing in their recent Christmas advert.

He's been hailed by Ange Postecoglou for the key role he has played behind the scenes.

But now reports south of the border are linking him with an exit as Hartlepool, who he played more than 100 times for between 2003-07, are looking for a new manager.

The Hartlepool Mail note that he has moved ahead of Jonathan Woodgate as the bookies favourite to replace Dave Challinor.

Strachan has been an integral part of Postecoglou 's backroom team so far this season and has previously coached at Peterborough and Doncaster Rovers - serving as Darren Ferguson's assistant on both occasions.

He has never held a top job but is highly-rated as a coach.

And League Two side Hartlepool could be the team to give him the chance.
