Gavin & Stacey returns to BBC One this weekend with the first episode ever aired

BBC One will air the first ever Gavin & Stacey episode this weekend.

The repeat of the British sitcom comes as television schedules change due to the the coronavirus crisis.

Many shows with live audiences have been taken off air while the soaps have all stopped filming.

So in a bid to cheer the nation up BBC is cracking open some corkers and bringing back some old favourites such as Outnumbered and Gavin & Stacey.

It means those who love the show get to relive it all over again while the few who have never watched it can start again at the beginning with everyone else.

Here's everything you need to know.

When does Gavin and Stacey return?

Episode one of series one airs on Saturday night (April 4) at 8.15pm on BBC One.

The 30-minute episode will take fans back down memory lane as Gavin (Mathew Horne) and Stacey (Joanne Page) first meet.

How many episodes of Gavin and Stacey are there?

There are three series of Gavin & Stacey as well as a Christmas special in 2008 and a Christmas special in 2019, 10 years after series three ended.

BBC One will air series one to begin with over a six-week period.

What happens in the first episode?

On Saturday night viewers will be re-introduced to the much-loved characters, including Smithy and Nessa (writers James Corden and Ruth Jones).

Having spent months of the phone flirting Stacey travels to London from Wales to meet Gavin for the first time.
