Gavin & Stacey return shelved as Ruth Jones can't meet up with James Corden

Gavin & Stacey star Ruth Jones has admitted that there are currently no plans for a comeback show because she can't meet up with James Corden.

The 53-year-old actress, who co-wrote the show alongside James, admitted that the duo like to be in the same room when they produce their material.

However, James is currently holed up in the United States which means that any hopes of a Gavin & Stacey revival have been dashed - for now.

It comes as fans beg for the popular sitcom to return after a hugely successful Christmas special topped records as the most watched show of the decade.

Speaking to Lorraine Kelly, Ruth shut down hopes of a comeback for the time being.

Ruth was appearing on the ITV show to discuss her latest book, however the pressing question about Nessa and Smithy's future did arise.

"It's lovely that people ask me. People always say ''I'm really sorry to ask''," she told the presenter.

"I wish I could say yes but as always been the case, James and I love to write together in the same room and that's just not possible at the moment because he's in America and I'm in the UK.

She then teased: "There aren't any plans at the moment but, who knows?"

The Christmas special ended on a huge cliff hanger, which left many viewers hoping that another season could be in stall.

However, in February James also appeared to shut down rumours of a comeback, citing distance as being a key factor.

“I'm being completely honest, there are no plans to do any more because a lot of it is about time and distance,” he admitted to a BBC correspondent while heading into the Oscars in February.

Although the show creator admitted there was nothing in the pipeline, he also didn't close down the idea completely.

He added: "we're going to really try our best to give it some thought at the least, but there is no plans - as it stands right now - to ever make another one."
