Gavin & Stacey newcomer Laura Aikman lived her best life at the NTAs last night

She made an impact on the Gavin & Stacey Christmas special and the comedy's newest cast member, newcomer Laura Aikman, has definitely impressed with her down-to-earth glamour and excitement at last night's National Television Awards.

Aikman, who played Smithy's new girlfriend, Sonia, in the latest episode of the BBC comedy, was clearly ecstatic to be going to the annual bash, at which Gavin & Stacey picked up the Impact Award.

The down-to-earth actress shared pictures and videos on Instagram of her getting ready for the evening and with her cast mates who were spotted on the red carpet ahead of collecting the award.

The actress' Instagram stories show her doing her hair and make-up at home, pulling funny faces and poking fun at being glammed up at 4pm on a Tuesday.

Aikman, who's also appeared in Waterloo Road and Liar, seemed chuffed to be sitting in the front row ready to collect the Impact Award with Ruth Jones, Rob Brydon, Larry Lamb, Alison Steadman, Robert Wilfort and Gavin and Stacey themselves, Joanna Page and Mathew Horne.

Aikman is clearly loving her involvement with the show and it's not the first time she's shared some snippets from behind the scenes. Back in December she shared some brilliant snaps from the filming of the Gavin & Stacey Christmas special.

When accepting the Impact Award, Gavin & Stacey co-creator, Ruth Jones, thanked "the good people of Barry Island for giving us such a warm welcome in the summer".

She was asked yet again about more episodes of the show and told gathered reporters: "We still have the same situation, which is that James and I live on different continents, so getting together to write is very difficult, so who knows?

"At the moment there are no plans."
