Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani's eldest children not relying on them for boost in music business

Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani's eldest children do not seem interested in using their parents' fame to get a career boost in the music business.

The Bush frontman has Kingston, 19, Zuma, 17, and Apollo, 12, with the 56-year-old singer, whom he was married to from 2002 until 2016, and Gavin, 60, said that an artist's own talent ultimately determines success in the music industry.

Appearing on a recent episode of And The Writer Is... with Ross Golan podcast, Gavin said: "People talk a lot about nepo babies and stuff like that. You know, no one gave a s*** about [singer Tim Buckley's son] Jeff Buckley being a nepo baby. It just was so good.

"So I think that being good at stuff is the great equaliser and is the great thrust into whatever you’re doing. If the quality is lacking, then yeah, that’s an easy jibe."

One of Gavin's eldest sons seems determined to pursue music on his own terms, as he prefers not to take his dad's advice.

The Swallowed hitmaker shared: "One boy has left school, and he decided not to go to college. He’s recording songs, and it’s just really fun. He doesn’t want to hear anything from me, by the way. It’s just, no advice.

"It’s like, I can’t give him advice about anything. He just does not want it ...

"So I say, 'If you want to be a musician, you want to be a singer, it’s so hard, and I don’t know how you’re going to do it, and good luck. But by the way, sing a lot, and play a lot of guitar, and take lessons because might as well be knowledgeable about what you want to do.'"

In March, the Grammy nominee said he and Gwen make their own decisions regarding the welfare of Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo, which he thinks has worked out "fine".

Discussing co-parenting with the No Doubt frontwoman, Gavin told Fox News Digital: "It's a very, it is an interesting kind of… It's a two-lane highway, you know, but they don't ever seem to merge, which is fine.

"Probably doing the best she can, and I'm doing the best I can. And the kids are growing up, so I'm a proud proponent of the system. It's fine.

"It's a very, it is an interesting kind of, it's a two-lane highway, you know, but they don't ever seem to merge, which is fine."

The Glycerine performer's priority with his sons is not to raise "jerks" but guys who other people like, so he tries to set a good example with how he leads his own life.

Talking about his parenting priorities, he said: "Making them likable. I think that if you've got kids that are unlikable, they've got a tough life ahead, you know.

"Life is hard enough without being a jerk, without being kind of aware of other people, mindful of other people, considerate of other people, empathetic.

"And so all those things that I try to do my best in my life to be... Just try to show by example with my kids, consistent friends, consistent people around and a sort of a steady approach to life."

Gavin is also dad to 37-year-old fashion model Daisy Lowe, whom he has with his 56-year-old ex-partner, fashion designer-and-ex-singer Pearl Lowe.
