Gavin James reveals his favourite place in NI to go for a drink and his unusual real name

Irish singer-songwriter Gavin James eats, sleeps and breathes music, you can simply just tell that from watching any of his live performances, he lives for his career.

But what does the 29-year-old love about good old Northern Ireland? We decided to put him under the Be spotlight to delve a little deeper and find out just what makes him tick.

In our Q&A he reveals his favourite spot in Belfast for a drink when he's here and also his unusual surname that we can't believe we didn't know before now!

What is your fondest memory of performing Northern Ireland?

The Ulster Hall last year was the last date of my global tour in 2019, that was one amazing audience, Belfast sold out was absolutely crazy I can’t wait to go back and play there again.

Where is your favourite place in NI to escape from it all?

To be honest I haven’t spent enough time in Northern Ireland, mainly Belfast and I love the city, I recently recorded in the Botanic Gardens with the BBC which was beautiful setting, as soon as this Covid  disappears I can’t wait to explore it more.

The best thing about Belfast is...

100% has to be the people and the vibe, such great music and venues.

If you could invite three people alive or dead to a dinner party who would they be and why?

Definitely Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong so they could sing all my favourites and tell some amazing stories. Also Jimi Hendrix so I can hear him play the guitar like nobody else.

Is there any other career path you wanted to pursue when you were younger?

The simple answer to that is absolutely not, music is the only thing I ever wanted to do and I hope I can keep doing it.

What's the strangest job you've done in your lifetime?

I worked in a solicitors office which was not for me.

If you had to choose one, what reality TV programme would you appear on and why?

I’m not a fan of reality TV but I have been the special guest artist on a few music TV shows across Europe and Dancing with the Stars in America.

Tell us something about yourself that not many people know

My real surname is Wigglesworth.

Favourite place to go for a drink in Northern Ireland?

I like a whiskey and the views from the Observatory [at Grand Central Hotel].
