Gavin James announces massive drive-in concert series for outdoor Irish venues this summer

Gavin James will perform at a number of outdoor venues this summer as part of a drive-in concert series.

Limerick will be the first location for the concerts that aim to kickstart the entertainment and live gig industry when Covid-19 restrictions allow towards the end of July.

The Dubliner will headline the concerts set to take place in Limerick, Cork, Waterford and Kilkenny from July 24.

It is the first time these types of concerts will be held in Ireland.

The first concert will take place at a specially designated site at Limerick’s Dock road with two concerts at 4pm and 8pm.

Shows will follow at Cork’s Show Ground on 31 July, at the Tramore Prom in Waterford on 7 August and at Gowran Racecourse in Kilkenny on 10 August.

There will be strict restrictions on the capacity with a maximum of 300 cars per concert with just four people per car who must be from the same household.

Mick Dolan, who runs the Dolan’s pub and concert venue on Limerick’s Dock Road, said the past few months had been a very difficult time for the music industry.

He told RTE: “We are facing into a summer period where the traditional festival offering and big gig line-ups just won’t be happening.

“Limerick deserves something special and something unique to look forward to, so we have teamed up with the local authority to bring the concept of the drive-in concerts to Limerick.”
