Gavin and Stacey star Laura Aikman shares brilliant behind the scenes footage

Gavin and Stacey star Laura Aikman is one happy bunny.

The actress may have played Smithy’s unpopular girlfriend Sonia in the Christmas special, but she’s more than happy with her lot right now.

So much so she has shared some behind the scenes footage of the cast filming for the episode, which aired on Christmas Day and attracted more than 11 million viewers.

The 34-year-old praised the sitcom, telling her social media followers that the job “made her year” before offering a sneaky peek at what the likes of James Corden and Rob Brydon get up to when the cameras are pointing the other way.

She tweeted: “James Corden wheeling Rob Brydon around on a pallet dolly while he does Tom Jones... just an average day on set.”

The clip, which she linked to her Instagram Stories, saw James, aka Smithy, take Rob, who plays Bryn, for a spin around a warehouse studio while the Welsh comedian sang She's a Lady at the top of his lungs.

Laura also heaped praise on the BBC show's creators, Corden and Ruth Jones.

She said: “This job made my year. Thank you @j_corden @chrisg2100 and Ruth for having me. I had such a laugh and laughed even harder just now watching it for the third time!!!”

The show was such a hit with fans it brought in the biggest overnight Christmas Day audience rating in 11 years.

Delighted fans caught up with the title characters and their pals 10 years after they were last on our screens on New Year’s Day 2010.

And it was Nessa and Smithy who took centre stage in the hour-long episode with a shock proposal.

After Smithy’s girlfriend Sonia went down like a lead balloon with the group before scurrying off to her mum’s, Nessa declared her love for Smith and got down on one knee - just before the credits started rolling.

Fans of the show were left hanging with the mega cliffhanger - but fear not, as Ruth has since hinted that there could be more episodes in the pipeline.
