Gavin and Stacey star Larry Lamb has revealed the cast had rocks thrown at them when they were filming series one in Wales.
The hit show, which is returning in December for a Christmas special, originally ran from 2007 to 2010.
Lamb, who plays Gavin's father Mick, revealed at the press launch for the new episode that some residents in the Welsh town of Barry were not impressed when the cast and crew arrived to film series one.
“The first time we ever filmed in Barry, I’ll never forget it,” said Lamb. “We were doing a travelling shot and there were kids throwing rocks at us, the police had to give us an escort.”
Explaining how the relationship between the locals and the show has improved over the past ten years, he added: “The next time we were filming in Barry, we wanted to film on the bank holiday weekend on the beach, they said, ‘Yeah, you can have the beach.’
“And the last time we went there, which was this last time, we were so inundated with people, there were 400 people at both ends of Trinity Street every time we did it, it was quite extraordinary.
“The way that Barry has now adapted to being Barrybados, as they call themselves, it’s just extraordinary what it’s done for them, and they really appreciate it – that’s the glorious thing about it, they love it, they feel a part of it.”
Lamb will reprise his role as Mick in the Christmas special alongside James Corden, Mathew Horne, Joanna Page, Ruth Jones, Rob Brydon and Alison Steadman.
The BBC recently revealed the show would be among its festive TV highlights, alongside Doctor Who, A Christmas Carol and Dracula.
It will air at 8.30pm on Christmas Day on BBC One.
