Gavin and Stacey back on BBC in primetime Saturday night slot to the delight of fans

The BBC has given us some 'tidy' news that should bring some light relief to millions of people during the coronavirus crisis...Gavin and Stacey is coming back!

Yes and we'll tell you for why! BBC1 has confirmed that the much-loved comedy will be given a primetime weekend slot as many of us abide by the Government's instruction to stay at home wherever possible during the coronavirus lockdown period.

Gavin & Stacey's Christmas Special was the most watched TV show of last year, attracting some 18.5 million viewers to BBC1 on Christmas Day, well ahead of any other show on TV on December 25.

And now, months after receiving the special Landmark award at this year's National Television Awards, the residents of Barry Island and Essex will be back on our screens.

Sadly, it won't be for new episodes so we still won't know if Smithy said yes to Nessa or what happened on THAT fishing trip.

But we will get to see some classics Gavin and Stacey episodes, with director-general Tony Hall saying: "On Saturday nights, BBC One will provide the laughs and host a comedy takeover with some of the very best British comedy series, kicking off with Gavin and Stacey and Outnumbered from Saturday 4 April, and more classic titles will be announced soon.

Fans have reacted with much enthusiasm to the news. One tweeted: "GOD, this makes me happy!" and another posted: "Oh my days Gavin and Stacey is well lush. Truth be told at the end of the day you knows it too."
