An adult gaur was found dead, believed electrocuted by a low-slung power cable, in Wang Nam Khieo district of Nakhon Ratchasima province on Tuesday, Thap Lan National Park chief Prawatsart Chanthep said.

Mr Prawatsart said he was informed of the gaur's death by Wang Nam Khieo police.

Officials from Thap Lan National Park went to the spot where the dead animal was found, near Puthachart village in tambon Thai Samakkhi.

It was a bull, about 10 years old, weighing about 1,000 kilogrammes, lying dead on a track about 300 metres from the national park boundary.

An inury believed caused by electrocution was found on the left side of the gaur's nose. There were also blisters from an infection on the animal's skin, but they were not symptoms of lumpy skin disease.

Veterinarians had taken samples from the dead animal for laboratory tests, Mr Prawatsart said.

He said the gaur possibly touched a nearby electric cable dangling low between power posts with its nose.

Mr Prawatsart said it was was the second gaur to die from electrocution in two weeks.

The first was found dead on Sept 26, its head leaning against a power post of the Highway Department, near the Khao Yai National Park in Prachin Buri's Nadi district.
