Gatwick flight grounded by 'distressed' emotional support French bulldogs wearing tutus

A flight from Gatwick Airport was grounded when French bulldogs wearing tutus became distressed.

The Norwegian Air flight destined for Austin, Texas, was disrupted by the emotional support dogs travelling in passengers' hand luggage.

The Boeing 787 had been scheduled to depart at 11am on Thursday but was delayed by half an hour, according to the BBC.

Gatwick Airport confirmed to the broadcaster that the dogs had boarded the plane with relevant passports and paperwork.

But when they became "distressed" the captain escorted their owners off the flight with the animals.

Photos posted on social media reportedly showed the dogs in their tutus being carried in holdalls.

An airport spokesman added: "The safety and security of our passengers and crew is always our number one priority.

"Flight DI7181 from Gatwick to Austin had not yet departed when the captain took the decision to offload emotional support dogs and their two owners at the gate due to the dogs showing signs of distress in the cabin."

Emotional support animals have become increasingly popular for nervous flyers in recent years, helping prevent physical and mental conditions like stress. high blood pressure, depression and anxiety.
