A passenger has been airlifted to hospital after a fall at Gatwick Airport.

At around 6.30pm on Wednesday, emergency services scrambled to the airport's South Terminal departure lounge after a passenger was "injured in a fall".

Unconfirmed reports on social media suggested the passenger "fell from a height".

Pictures from the scene showed Gatwick staff putting up screens outside World Duty Free while paramedics treated the passenger.

An air ambulance took the passenger to hospital. Their condition is not yet known.

A spokesman for Gatwick Airport said: "Earlier this evening the emergency services and Gatwick staff were called to assist a passenger injured in a fall in the South Terminal Departure Lounge.

"The passenger has now been taken to hospital by the air ambulance service.”
