Gatwick Airport evacuated after fire alarm set off in Nando's

(@sam_gillespie_/Twitter)

Holidaymakers at Gatwick Airport were forced to evacuate the airport temporarily after a fire alarm in a branch of Nando's went off.

Fire alarms sounded in the airport’s South Terminal on Monday forcing passengers the wait outside the terminal building.

One witness said he saw staff members "sprinting towards Nando's".

Others complained that they were given little information about what was happening during the evacuation, tweeting:

The fire alarm went off at around 11:20am and people were allowed back into the terminal at approximately 11:45am, according to the Evening Standard.

Gatwick posted on Twitter: "Apologies to anyone who was temporarily evacuated from the South Terminal departure lounge due to a fire alarm. We're back up & running now."
