A gathering of authors for a “support local writers” event has been hailed as the largest of its kind ever held in Wexford.
Fifteen authors spoke to highlight 18 new, recently launched books by local writers.
Organiser Wally O’Neill, owner of Wexford bookshop Red Books, said: “It was a huge success in highlighting the incredible range of writing talent currently working locally.
“Wexford is entering a golden age for culture at the moment.
“We have the very best theatrically acts, underground musicians, spoken word artists and authors.
“You could easily compare the town now to the literary scene in Dublin in the 50s or Galway in the 90s.
“As an independent bookshop, we are in a unique position to see it happening and it’s exciting.”
Fifteen authors spoke at the event in Red Books in St Peter’s Square last Thursday.
They were Daithi Kavanagh, Margaret Byrne, Ron Smith, Lorna Whitty, Des Kiely, Jer Ennis, Noel Culleton, Billy Roche, Maleen Junge, Eamon Colfer, Emma Ennis, Ruby O’Connor, Margaret Galvin, Mark Rice and Tom Logan.
All of the books they read from are new, locally produced and available as Christmas presents this year.
