Gateshead winery offers free delivery during lockdown

An award-winning winery which is something of a hidden treasure in Gateshead is set to broaden its fan base further with a money-saving treat.

Laneberg Wine - which operates from Team Valley Trading Estate, making it the most northerly winery in England - has been unable to offer a collection service for customers because of its closure due to the coronavirus crisis.

Elise Lane (Newcastle Chronicle)

So the young company, which calls itself Tyneside's first urban winery, is offering free delivery - within a 15-mile radius - during lockdown and a free courier service to those who order a certain amount.

Laneberg Wine, run by 39-year-old Elise Lane, started out buying grapes from Leicestershire and bringing them up to its Gateshead for base for processing which, from crushing to bottling, takes around three months.

Its first vintage was released only last year and it immediately won awards.

Its Bacchus 2018 white wine has won three bronze medals at the International Wine And Spirits Competition, the Wine GB awards and the regional competitions for producers from the Midlands and the North.

The company has four whites in total, including a Pinot G - a British version of the Pinot Grigio - and on the back of her award success Elise, who was brought up in Newcastle, set her sights on a red and now also has a sparkling wine, This Mortal Angel; turning her focus on vineyards in Cirencester and South Staffordshire for her next vintage.

And its Solaris, named after the German grape from which it is made, won silver and best ‘medium’ wine award at the regionals, while a rose won a bronze there too.

Now those who have yet to discover the hidden treasure on their doorstep and in the mood for a lockdown treat can also take advantage of a 10% off discount on their first order. See here.

The Bacchus 2018 white wine is currently sold out online.

Wine is sold by the bottle as well as in cases and the company has also teamed up on limited-edition cases featuring a mix of Laneberg Wine and guest Domaine Treloar wines from France. For current money-off deals see here.
