Gateshead welcomes Premier League trophy this week - here's where to see it

Football fans have a chance to get up close and personal this week with one of the most famous trophies in the world.

The official Premier League trophy will be having a two-day stop-off in Gateshead from Wednesday, offering people a chance of viewing it for themselves - described as a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity".

The glittering prize in one of the most competitive football leagues in the world - which sees world class players battle it out on the pitch to be crowned Premier League champions - will be on show in the Sky store at the Metrocentre.

And it promises to be an impressive sight.

Cast by the Crown Jewellers, the main body of the trophy is made from solid sterling silver while its two crowns are cast from 24-carat silver gilt.

Fans will be able to see the trophy in the Sky store, which is the Lower Red Mall of the Metrocentre, this Wednesday and Thursday, August 18-19.

The Sky store opened this spring in the Gateshead shopping centre where other recent arrivals have included a bubble tea shop and - opening this week - new restaurant Slim Chickens.
