A Gatehead school has been forced to send students home due to a lack of teachers.
Years 8 and 9 at Heworth Grange school were told to work from home until half term on Monday night.
Leaders said the decision was made "with great regret" due to issues with "staffing capacity".
It comes after the whole of Year 10 were told to self-isolate on Friday, after a positive coronavirus test within the year group bubble.
In a message posted on the school's social media channels, a spokesperson said: "It is with great regret that we have taken the decision to ask year 8 and year 9 to work remotely from home for the remainder of this week. (20th- 22nd October)
"This decision was not taken lightly but is in response to staffing capacity.
"Year 10 need to continue to self-isolate but year 8 and 9 are not required to isolate. School will be open for Year 7, 11 and 13 only for the remainder of this week.
"I apologise in advance for any inconvenience that this causes and the lateness of this message. Please encourage all year 8,9 and 10 students to log in to their Classharts account to access work remotely."
The school was already set to close on Friday for the training day, and all students are now set to return after half term on Monday November 2.
Heworth Grange is not the only school in the region to send students home due to issues with staffing - Excelsior Academy, in Newcastle, made a similar move, saying coronavirus had caused around 30% of teachers and 50% of pastoral staff to have to stay away from work at its secondary school.
