Gateshead reality show Angels of the North nominated for top broadcast award

A reality show set in a Gateshead salon is proving to be a cut above the rest after being nominated for a top industry accolade.

Series 1 of the show, set in Longlox Super Salon near the Metrocentre, became an instant binge watch success when it launched on iPlayer at the end of last year, before individual episodes were given a prime time slot on BBC1 earlier this year.

Four episodes of the second series were then in the can before a massive spanner was thrown in the works by the coronavirus pandemic, forcing filmed to come to an abrupt end in March.

The final episode seen by fans saw Longlox owner Sammyjo Pearson in tears as she had to close her beloved salon but, as well as it now being re-open for business and a crew coming in to shoot more episodes, this week has brought even better news for the Longlox girls and Twenty Six 03 Entertainment, the company responsible for Angels of the North.

And that's because the Gateshead- set show is up for the Best Short-Form Format trophy at this year's Broadcast Digital Awards.

The winners will be revealed at a virtual ceremony on October 14 and Angels of the North is up against #FML – Most Racist Uber Ride Ever, Chained Attraction – Luke and Harry, Misfits Salon, Positive Inking and Rosie Tries to Help in its category.

Other big shows nominated in other categories include Geordie Shore, Ru Paul's Drag Race UK, Hollyoaks, Canny Cops and Jesy Nelson's documentary Odd One Out.
