Gateshead pub landlord's plea to police as 'smirking yob' keeps terrorising his pub

A landlord says his pub has been terrorised by a smirking thug who has spooked his staff.

Despite calls to the police, Central Bar landlord Gav Sinclair claims no officers have paid a visit to his Gateshead venue.

Bins have been tipped over and windows smashed by someone seemingly bearing a grudge.

On one occasion a creepy note stating 'Karma Police' - a Radiohead song - was left on the doorstep.

While no arrests have been made, Northumbria Police force insists it is "working hard" to locate the suspect.

However, Gav claims he shouldn't be too hard to find as he's returned "seven or eight times" since - with his actions becoming increasingly more odd.

"He came back on Sunday and was p****** in the doorway. He's been seen standing in the window just smirking at the staff," said Gav.

"We have called the police five times now, and when they asked 'are we scared and frightened', we have said yes - but nothing.

"We've not had face to face contact with an officer yet - the only contact we have had is texts and phone calls.

"It has got to the point now that I'm scared to go in, in case the windows are smashed or he is hanging around."

He claims he's even told police the man's name.

"A few days later they asked 'do you have his house number?' - I'd have thought they would have this information," added Gav, who has worked at the Half Moon Lane pub for a decade.

"I don't want to slag the police off - I know they've had awful budget cuts - but we don't feel like we have been listened to."

Northumbria Police, which has lost 1,000 officers since 2010 due to Government cuts, confirmed it does have a suspect's name but that the man is still at large.

“Officers are currently carrying out multiple lines of enquires to gather evidence as part of the investigation," said a spokesperson.

“We do have the name of a potential suspect and we are working hard to bring him into custody.

“We’re not in a position to release his details at this stage but we will consider that if we are unable to locate him."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police using reference number 409 06/07/19 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
