Gateshead house death not thought to be suspicious, say police

The death of a man whose body was found in a Gateshead home is not thought to be suspicious, say police.

An investigation was launched after officers found the man inside a property on Newman Place, in Deckham, yesterday morning.

Police cordoned off the home as forensics officers worked inside.

But a Northumbria Police spokesman has now confirmed that no one else is thought to be responsible for the man's death.

He said: "Shortly before 11.30am yesterday we were alerted to a concern for the welfare of a man at an address on Newman Place, Gateshead.

“Emergency services attended and found a man deceased inside the property. His next of kin have been informed.

“Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, but officers do not currently believe the death to be suspicious.

“A report will be made for the coroner.”
