Gateshead green energy firm worker suspected of not wearing seatbelt has been fined

A Gateshead green energy firm worker suspected of not wearing a seatbelt while driving a company car has been fined and hit with penalty points.

Gary Page, 45, failed to inform police if he was the driver spotted not belting up at the wheel of the 10-year-old Mercedes.

Page, of Hendon Road, Deckham, Gateshead, did not attend his trial at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court - and the case was proven in his absence.

Prosecutor Ian Martin said the driver of the 2011-plate vehicle was seen by police committing the non-endorsable offence at 1.30pm on June 18, 2019.

Checks by Northumbria Police’s fixed penalty unit at Bedlington revealed it was registered to Green Energy Consulting.

Mr Martin added: “On June 24, 2019, a request for information was sent to Green Energy Consulting.

“On July 2, 2019, a request was sent for information to Gary Page of Hendon Road in Gateshead.

“A further request was sent to Gary Page. This requested him to provide information if he was the driver at that time.

“No information has been received, there’s been nothing in writing.

“The crown would say the process by the fixed penalty unit is robust and that he has failed to provide his details to police when requested about this road traffic offence.”

Page was charged with failing to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a vehicle when required.

Magistrates handed him six penalty points and fined him £660, and he must pay £100 court costs and a £66 victim surcharge, all within 28 days.
