Gateshead gets starring role on Britain's Got Talent as new series starts with inspiring video

Gateshead had a starring role in the first episode of Britain's Got Talent's new series of Saturday night.

Although, it was the briefest of glimpses, you could clearly see the famous structure of the BALTIC on the banks of the River Tyne as some Morris dancers performed in front of it.

The new series of BGT kicked off with a very inspiring video on what makes Britain so great, with other things featured included everything from a burst of Elton John's Your Song to fish and chips!

The poignant clip finished with Ant and Dec walking up to the auditions at the London Palladium, saying "but most of all, we love the fact that Britain's Got Talent."

While Britain's Got Talent's auditions, which will feature acts like contortionist Papi Flex and Indian dancers X1X Crew, will air as planned, having been filming in January and February, ITV have confirmed that the live shows have been postponed due to coronavirus.

A statement from ITV said: “We have been working with the brilliant production teams at Thames and Syco to find a way of making the live finals work, which were due to be broadcast at the end of May.

“However, in light of the latest government health guidelines and in line with our priority of safeguarding the wellbeing of everyone involved in our programmes, production of the live shows cannot go ahead as planned.

"The live finals will therefore be broadcast later in the year.”

A spokesperson for BGT told ChronicleLive: "Everything you see from us and our sponsor, M & S Food, was filmed and created earlier in the year – before the ongoing health crisis began and we can only hope the show will bring a little bit of light relief for viewers at this distressing time."
