Gateshead business left devastated by fire as investigation launched

A computer repairs unit has gone up in flames during an overnight fire in Gateshead.

Firefighters were called to the Fairfield Industrial Park in the Bill Quay area just before midnight on Monday.

The fire had taken hold at a two-storey factory unit used for computer repairs.

At its height, there were three fire engines, an aerial ladder platform and an officer at the blaze.

The Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service said the entire building has been severely damaged by the fire.

Firefighters have been working at the scene throughout the night as the building's roof is in danger of collapsing.

Nobody was hurt in the fire and the property owners were able to isolate the electricity.

One fire engine remained at the unit at 9am on Tuesday morning.

The cause of the fire is not currently known.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At 8.17am today, we were alerted by the fire brigade to a blaze at a business premises on Fairfield Industrial Park, Gateshead, overnight.

“Inquiries are ongoing with the fire service to determine the cause of the fire.”
