Gateshead beauty school looks set to be approved despite parking fears

A bid to set up a beauty school in a Gateshead suburb is set to be given the stamp of approval despite a councillor's fears about the scheme causing a "parking log jam".

Tracey Carver, of the Face Beauty Training, has applied to Gateshead Council for permission to turn a former balloon and party supplies shop into a beauty school.

Two staff members working from the premises on Keir Hardie Avenue, in Wardley, would run three courses per week, building up to five courses per week over the next 12 months.

Each course would run from 9.30 in the morning to 3.30pm and have a maximum of 10 students learning a range of beauty techniques such as lash extensions, eyebrow treatments, nail enhancements, gel polish and henna brows.

When they complete their courses, students will be given a certificate supplied by Associated Beauty Therapists.

Authority planners have recommended approval for the application saying it is "acceptable".

But, ward councillor Ian Patterson has raised concerns about the plans pointing out that the premises is next to Wardley Primary School and claimed it would cause a "parking log jam" during the school run.

Gateshead Council's planning committee will vote on the application on Wednesday.
