Gateley defies pandemic impact to post profit rise

Listed law firm and professional services group Gateley has defied the impact of the coronavirus pandemic to post a rise in turnover and profit in its annual results and vowed to continue on the acquisition trail.

The Birmingham-based firm said today turnover had climbed by £11.6 million to £121.4 million for the year to April 30, 2021 while pre-tax profit rose from £14.8 million to £16.3 million.

In a statement to the stock exchange, which it joined in 2015, the firm said it had enjoyed high levels of activity and had an overall sense of optimism and confidence in the outlook for 2021/22.

Chief executive Rod Waldie said the practice would continue hunting for acquisitions, continuing its buyout activity which has seen it snap up a string of businesses in recent years including GCL Solicitors and financial consultancy Capitus.

"I am delighted with the excellent full-year 2021 outcome, a year in which we exceeded our own pandemic-adjusted performance expectations set in the first month of the year," he said.

"We have, once again, delivered year-on-year revenue growth. It is testament to the group's long-established and resilient business model.

"I thank our fantastic people for their exceptionally hard work, commitment and can-do attitude.

"As we continue our strategy to build a broader professional services business, focusing on both new and existing clients, the demand for these services is strong and we are carrying a robust pipeline of work into 2021/22.

"We remain excited by a wide range of opportunities and are looking forward to continuing to grow the group, both organically and via acquisition, in line with our strategy."
