Gatehouse of Fleet playpark campaign closing in on £86,000 target

Campaigners bidding to create a new playpark in Gatehouse are closing in on their £86,000 target.

The Riverbank Park fundraising group has secured a further £10,000 from the Holywood Trust.

The charity had already pledged £20,000 towards the group’s ambitious cash drive.

Riverbank campaign organiser Tarena Dickie hailed the news as “great news”.

She said: “This proves to other funders we have applied to that we are committed to seeing this project through.

“We are delighted with continued support from the Hollywood Trust and for considering our recent request for additional funding.

“They have also granted us an extension in time to raise the final amount. We are nearly there.”

More good news for Riverbank came with a cheque for £1,500 from The Lang Foundation.

And Gatehouse firefighters chipped in with £193 from their Mount Everest Challenge ladder climb at the clock tower.

The latest round of contributions has lifted the campaign total to £80,129.

The group has until the end of summer to meet funders’ deadlines.

And Tarena urged local businesses and residents to help get the project over the line.

She said: “We really don’t have much to raise now. We are overwhelmed with the donations and funding secured so far.

“So many thanks go to all our funders for their continued support.”

She added: “Once the money is raised the next stage is to sign leases with the council and DGHP.

“We will then put in an order for equipment to the product designer.

“The old climbing frame will be removed and the new build will then commence.”

Gatehouse Development Initiative are providing administrative support to the group.
