Gatehouse garden fundraiser pulls in almost £700 for the MS Society

A Gatehouse garden day fundraiser in aid of the MS Society locally pulled in almost £700 on Sunday.

Ju Clear, who is living with a progressive form of the condition, organised the event with her mum Mary whose garden boasts a stunning display of flowers, shrubs and vegetables at her High Street home.

Mum-of-four Ju, 49, was delighted with the response from the public – many of whom came across from the Gatehouse Gala opening in Garries Park after organisers put out a message over the tannoy.

She said: “I would like to give a great big thank you to all those folk that came and donated cash for MS research.

“We had a dream team on duty on the day and big thanks go to mama for her garden, to my sister Rosie and her husband Barney Fryer and my partner Abram McLaughlin who was a greeter outside the house encouraging folk to come and have a neb and a cake.

“I’m grateful also to lifelong friend Shell McClure and husband Alan giving the garden musical ambiance and a massive shout out for all the bakers and folk that visited the garden.

“It was a brilliant success and we raise £679.70 which will be going to the Wigtownshire MS group which is our nearest one.”

Ju, who was diagnosed with progressive MS around 10 years ago, added: “We decided that folk could just pay what they feel by donation only – and that really worked.”
